Fearless Fourteen is a fab full-star Fourteen! Juni 18, 2008 Wombatsbooks 8 aus 10 fanden die folgende Rezension hilfreich
Stephanie apprehends Loretta Rizzi, Morelli's cousin. Loretta is wanted for armed robbery. She needed a Tom Collins and held up a liquor store. Loretta is not only Morelli's cousin but also sister to infamous Dominik Rizzi, who has just been released from prison for robbing a bank and stashing nine million USD, which have never been found. Problem is that Loretta gets kidnapped and s/o uses her to blackmail Dominik to divulge the booty's whereabouts. Steph reluctantly agrees to take care of Loretta's teenaged son Mario in the meantime, who goes by the name of Zook. People seem to believe the money must be stashed somewhere in or around Morelli's house and start intruding. Steph notices that Zook bears an uncanny resemblance to Morelli which makes her wonder. When little packages with nasty contents arrive to back the blackmail, besides going into hiding Dom goes postal and blames Morelli for everything... Apart from sorting out her domestic situation Steph is moonlighting for Ranger, babysitting singer Brenda during her promotion tour in Trenton. Brenda is 61 years old, mean as a snake, hooked on various things and looks like Santa's off-season 'ho still wanting to be in the showbiz.... Not an easy job babysitting her, let me tell you! Lula is her old plus-sized self and has set her mind on getting married... I have read the reviews on several US- American web pages. Most of them are one-star-reviews complaining about too much of the same old, character assassination, not enough Stephanie and the like. Well, I beg to differ with them. IMHO "Fearless Fourteen" is just different from the previous books. Of course "Fearless Fourteen" has a fairly good amount of "the same old", but in a positive way: The quirks and the situations Lula and Steph put themselves in. They are still there and quite a few of them too. And after a rather disappointing "Lean Mean Thirteen" Evanovich really seems to have put some effort into "Fearless Fourteen". She shifted the focus from Steph to Lula, cut down Grandma Mazur's antics and has only very little of Ranger (and therefore only a teensy weensy bit of sexual innuendo between Steph and him). Moreover Evanovich made sure to bring new readers up-to-date with the long-time characters and introduced new quirky ones who might be important for further books to come in this series. So if you are - despite of all the bad reviews out there -still interested in giving this one a try, you might even decide to like it. You will experience canine art, a geriatric nudist, makeup malfunctions, a Zookmobile, a smurf-color(ed) incident, s/o wanting private parts parity, learn about professional experience enhancement tools, the griefer, Minionfire, Homegrown Security and firmly adhered to rituals for Burgh husbands as well as Lula's theory about guys named "Ralph". Not to forget you will happen upon a person fainting you would have never ever thought of doing so and Morelli going domestic and in cupcake-mode... I truly enjoyed "Fearless Fourteen" - it had me chuckling most of the time - and IMHO Evanovich is definitely on her way up again!
